Situated at the entrance of the Park Royal South mall in West Vancouver, the Salmon Spindle Whorl pays homage to the earliest inhabitants of the area. A spindle whorl was a tool used by Coast Salish women to produce yarn for clothing and blankets. The piece also pays identifies the four species of salmon (Pink, Coho, Chinook and Chum) that spawn in the local rivers. During its unveiling, the art work received an inspiring traditional blessing.
